Dear members,

Exciting news! California Donor Table announced the launch of a $20 million funding strategy for 2024 at our statewide gathering of donors, on February 1st and 2nd in Redondo Beach. A big thank you to our Board members, Quinn Delaney and Wayne Jordan, Steve Phillips, Dr. Bill Resnick and Michael Stubbs, Karen Grove, Faye and Sandor Straus, as well as our host committee, Allison Thomas, Fran Jemmott, Rev. Zach Hoover, Dr. Resnick, Marcus Tyson, and Celinda Vazquez, who all contributed to making the convening great.

It was indeed a memorable two days featuring some of California’s most effective progressive elected officials including Attorney General Rob Bonta, LA County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, Assembly Majority Leader Emerita Eloise Gomez-Reyes, Santa Ana Councilmember Jessie Lopez, and LA County District Attorney George Gascón. We were especially excited to showcase so many who CDT previously endorsed! We’re also grateful to our outstanding practitioner partners who shared their work with attendees, including California Working Families Party State Director Jane Kim, Courage California Executive Director Irene Kao, Communities for a New California founding Executive Director Pablo Rodriguez, Engage San Diego Executive Director Luis Montero-Adams, and Local Progress Executive Director Ivan Lluevanos-Elms!

We kicked off our goal for this historic election year – $20 million for 2024.  We need $20 million for 2024 across tax statuses (particularly individual/PAC donations) to win congressional house seats towards a House majority, state Assembly and state Senate seats, progressive ballot measures, key local races, and to continue to build critical progressive infrastructure.

This election is an opportunity to build on decades of investments, from smart donors like you who know how funding a New American Majority improves democracy outcomes, and makes the US better for everyone.

We’ve signed onto the All by April pledge and invite our community of donors to invest in democracy like you mean it. This means we encourage you to give at least 50% of what you plan to give in 2024 by the end of March; another 25% by the end of April; and then the final 25% by July. This strategy works, because through CDT investing steadily over 15 years, we’ve built people-of-color infrastructure that has reaped the benefits of dramatic shifting in demographics and representation in Orange County, Inland Empire, the Central Valley, and all across the state!

Watch the full presentation below to learn more about how we are funding progressive power across California.

Electing progressive candidates makes all the difference to our communities. During the “Toxic Tour” of LA, led by organizers who make up the California Environmental Justice Alliance (CEJA), we learned how the group is fighting against companies and defending SB 1137, a law authored by Senator Lena Gonzalez that the wealthy oil companies are trying to kill through a ballot referendum this November. CDT previously endorsed Senator Gonzalez and provided crucial funding for her to win her race. We’re thrilled that she’s become a progressive champion in the Senate!

A very special thank you to the individual donors, philanthropic advisors, and foundation leaders who attended.

Your partnership is critical to building a thriving multiracial democracy in California. Click on the giving opportunities below to share your pledge, and we'll follow up with you individually to fulfill those pledges soon.

Stay tuned for our new member survey coming out later this month!

Warm regards,
